What can we talk about at an acupuncture appointment?

More than acupuncture. More than pain relief.

Acupuncture is a core strength at ALLBODY HEALTH. Treatment may also include appropriate hands-on care and other modalities, selected for your needs, comfort and wider wellbeing.

Start with what is bothering you; you do not need to choose a technique in advance. We discuss symptoms, previous assessments, medicines and what you hope to do more comfortably. Acupuncture may be considered as part of a wider care plan; suitability and individual response vary.

03

Pain and injury recovery

Back, neck, shoulder or joint discomfort, movement limitations and recovery after injury can be discussed. We assess your presentation before considering acupuncture, hands-on care or practical activity guidance. An existing eligible ACC claim may be used for ACC acupuncture.

04

Headache and migraine

We can discuss recurring headaches, migraine management and associated neck or jaw tension alongside your medical care. New or concerning symptoms need medical assessment; this consultation does not establish a headache diagnosis.

05

Women’s health, pre-conception and fertility support

You can talk about menstrual discomfort, wellbeing while preparing for pregnancy and support alongside your fertility journey. Care should fit around advice from your GP or fertility team. We do not claim improved implantation, pregnancy or live-birth rates.

06

Digestion, stress, sleep and fatigue

Digestive discomfort, sleep concerns, tension and low energy are part of Nyx’s clinical interests. We can explore whether supportive care is appropriate while recognising when further investigation is needed. Other concerns already discussed at the clinic include weight-management goals and skin or hair changes, with referral where appropriate.

07

Worried about needles?

Many people are unsure about acupuncture because they expect it to be painful. Nyx uses a gentle, comfort-focused approach and adjusts the needling technique and level of stimulation to the individual. If you are nervous about needles, tell us before treatment. We can take things slowly, explain each step and adapt the treatment around your comfort. If you would still prefer no needles, Needle-Free Acupoint Stimulation may be another option.

08

What the appointment may involve

After a conversation and assessment, we explain the plan, possible responses and alternatives. With your consent, fine, single-use needles are placed at selected points. You can ask questions, request adjustments or stop at any time. We review your response and discuss practical next steps before you leave.

09

Safety and suitability

Tell Nyx about medicines, bleeding conditions, pregnancy or possible pregnancy, skin problems and previous reactions to treatment. Temporary soreness, bruising or light-headedness can occur; risks and suitability are discussed before treatment. Significant new symptoms or concerns outside our scope require appropriate medical review.

Useful questions

Does acupuncture hurt?

Sensation varies from person to person. Nyx uses a gentle, comfort-focused approach and adjusts treatment according to how you respond. You may notice a brief prick, heaviness, warmth or other mild sensations, but you should always feel able to tell us if something is uncomfortable.

What should I wear?

Wear comfortable, loose clothing so the area being assessed can be reached easily. We will discuss positioning and privacy before treatment.

Should I eat before acupuncture?

No special diet is needed. Avoid arriving after a long period without food, and let us know if you feel unwell or light-headed.

How long is an appointment?

A private acupuncture appointment is 45–60 minutes, including the conversation, assessment and treatment.

How many sessions will I need?

It depends on the problem, how long it has been present and how you respond. We will discuss this with you rather than automatically recommending a fixed number of treatments.

Can I use ACC?

Acupuncture may be available for an eligible covered injury under an existing ACC claim. We confirm suitability and the surcharge before treatment. ALLBODY HEALTH does not lodge new claims.

What if I do not like needles?

Tell Nyx before treatment. We can take things slowly and adjust the technique and stimulation. If you still prefer no needles, a separate Needle-Free Acupoint Stimulation appointment may be an option after a suitability check.
